Airk Thaughbaer is the commander of the Knights of Galladoorn and a supporting protagonist of Willow. He fights against the forces of Queen Bavmorda led by General Kael.[1]

Biography[]

Airk Thaughbaer was a Knight of Galladoorn and member of the Shining Legion, along with Madmartigan and Allagash.

Battle after battle[]

During the Battle at Land's End, Airk commanded the Knights of Galladoorn against the Army of Nockmaar under the command of General Kael. Airk's forces were vastly outnumbered, but needed to prevent Nockmaar's forces from reaching the plains of Galladoorn.[2]

Madmartigan led a company of knights on a roundabout path to flank the Nockmaar warriors, but was discovered and his smaller force scattered. Madmartigan deserted in the midst of the fighting. Nockmaar's forces then used the roundabout path to flank the Knights of Galladoorn and destroy most of Airk's forces, though many survived thanks to Airk's capable leadership.[2] Afterwards, Airk would expel Madmartigan from the order in absentia for desertion.[1]

Two days after his defeat at Land's End,[2] Airk would once again be defeated by Kael during the Fall of Galladoorn, during which the Nockmaar army destroyed Castle Galladoorn[1] and killed all but 1000 of the Knights of Galladoorn.[2]

After leaving the ruined Galladoorn, Airk and his army would march through the Daikini crossroads where he would encounter an imprisoned Madmartigan. Willow Ufgood attempted to give baby Elora Danan to the passing knights, but Airk told him they were marching to battle and he should find a woman to take the baby. Madmartigan asked Airk what he was doing so far north, to which Airk told him Bavmorda's army was on the rampage searching for someone, and that they were marching to fight them at River Troon.[3] Madmartigan then asked Airk to release him, saying that he could win the war for them. Airk refused, saying that he served Galladoorn whereas Madmartigan served no one.[1]

Airk and his forces then battled[1] with Kael and his Nockmaar warriors[4] and were defeated again, with Airk losing most of his men. Airk and a few fellow survivors were forced into hiding in a snow village, where they eventually encountered Willow and his allies as they fled from pursuing Nockmaar warriors.[1]

Victory at Nockmaar Castle[]

As Willow's party fled to Tir Asleen with the Nockmaar in pursuit, Airk and the remnants of his forces followed, arriving at the battle late and forcing the Nockmaar to retreat. Airk and his allies then traveled to Nockmaar Castle in order to rescue the captive Elora Danan and to defeat Queen Bavmorda. Upon the company's arrival, Bavmorda casted a spell that transformed them all into pigs. That night, sorceress Fin Raziel secretly undid the spell, and the rebels followed Willow's plan to trick their way into the castle: at daybreak, Airk's army emerged from fallen tents and charged into Nockmaar Castle under Madmartigan's lead, commencing the fateful Battle of Nockmaar. In the course of the battle, Airk confronted Kael and was ultimately killed in a duel with the general. In his dying moments, Airk asked Madmartigan to win the war for him. Indeed, Airk was avenged shortly thereafter by Madmartigan, who slayed General Kael, with Willow ultimately defeating Bavmorda. Thus concluded the reign of the demon queen.[1]
