The Battle of Tir Asleen was a conflict that pitted the soldiers of the Demon Queen Bavmorda against a group of rebels that attempted to overthrow her by fulfilling an old prophecy. It took place 1342 years after the Nelwyn Arrival Day, around and in the castle of Tir Asleen, where the Nelwyn trainee magician Willow Ufgood and his companions hoped to find an army to protect Elora Danan, a child who was supposed to bring the downfall of Bavmorda. However, the rebels found that the city's inhabitants had all been frozen in crystal. Shortly after the rebels' arrival, the troops of Bavmorda reached the castle, with Lord Kael and Princess Sorsha at their heads.

Prelude[]

Several kingdoms of the Mother World had prophecies of a child that would unite and rule them. In an attempt to stop this from happening, the evil Queen Bavmorda ordered the capture of all pregnant women under her domain and put them in the dungeons of her castle. Among these women was the mother of the prophesized child, Elora Danan. Shortly before the battle, Elora was born and smuggled out of the castle by the midwife Ethna before Bavmorda could have her killed.[1]

Elora found her way into the custody of the Nelwyn Willow Ufgood, who was then assigned by the High Aldwin Junn to bring the child back to her kind. Willow encountered the exiled knight Madmartigan and they two journeyed together to keep Elora out of the hands of the Nockmaar warriors hunting for her.[1]

Eventually, Elora and her guardians were captured by the Nockmaar warriors after finding Fin Raziel. During their escape, they found their way to Tir Asleen in the hopes of finding help, only to find the inhabitants of the castle frozen in crystal. Madmartigan went to the armory to prepare a defense as the Nockmaar army barreled towards the castle on horseback.[1]

The battle[]

Seeing the arrival of Kael and his forces, Madmartigan quickly barricaded the gate of the castle. The Nockmaar soldiers quickly got to work cutting down a nearby tree to create a battering ram and began to break gown the gate.[1]

With the help of Fin Raziel, now a goat, and Madmartigan, Ufgood managed to defend his position for a time, against all odds. Eventually, the Knights of Galladoorn came to the rebel's rescue, and the Nockmaar army fled the castle, kidnapping Elora in the process. Sorsha, however, had defected to the rebels out of her love for Madmartigan.[1]

Aftermath[]

The rebels, now allied with the Knights of Galladoorn and Princess Sorsha, who had changed sides out of love for Madmartigan, then headed out for Nockmaar Castle, where a decisive battle would take place.[1]
