Tanthalos VIII, commonly known as Tanthalos the Great, was King of Tir Asleen until his untimely death, which was provoked by his daughter-in-law, the sorceress Bavmorda. He was succeeded by his son, Prince Mikal Tanthalos, who went on to reign as Tanthalos IX. When Durward, the last court poet of Tir Asleen, suggested that the new queen Bavmorda had been responsible for the deaths of Tanthalos the Great and his wife, he was executed.[1]
